Download Festival, Donington Park, Castle Donington

While Glastonbury seems to have made a miscalculation by going for a more hip-hop bling crowd, the six-year-old Download festival has captured a trend by recognising the return to vogue of vintage heavy metal. As younger metal bands get ever more po-faced and serious, no generation should escape such quintessential metal silliness as the sight of a grown man wearing a silver cape and hood, carrying a three-pronged fork and proclaiming "I am Nostradamus". Judas Priest singer Rob Halford does look rather grizzled, but hasn't really been around since the 16th century, and obviously didn't prophesy that when he switched to more familiar leather and studs he would look like an S & M Michael Eavis. No matter, Halford is a bona fide Metal God, and anthems such as Hell Bent for Leather rock hard enough to win a whole new field of fans. The chuffed singer declares: "The Priest are back!" and even revives his old motorcycle riding stunt, this time without tumbling from the stage.

If any band is visually dafter, it's Kiss, who descend like cartoon characters in body armour and full makeup. Alas, they could never outrock the Priest, and should open with more hits rather than try to demonstrate metal credentials. However, as drum solos diminish, darkness descends and we are instructed to Lick It Up, the video screens pick out the full elongated horror of Gene Simmons' tongue. Gradually, Kiss become an aural-visual extravaganza. Simmons levitates to a raised platform, and I Was Made for Loving You is surely the weekend's only disco anthem. Their piece de resistance sees singer Paul Stanley flying across the field on a pulley, like Superman, although the Man of Steel obviously favoured much more sensible clothing.

Denied: No Divorce for Madonna & Guy

If you believe the reports coming from tabloids across the pond earlier today, Madonna and Guy Ritchie have not only separated, but they're both meeting with high-powered divorce attorneys to split up their sizable estate. One website even claimed that Madge had hired Nicholas Mostyn, who most recently represented Paul McCartney in his divorce from ex-wife Heather Mills.

However, it looks like all this rumor-spouting is just that, as a rep for the Material Girls tells OK! that Madonna and Guy's 7- year marriage is still going strong.

There is no truth to [reports of a divorce]," the rep for the singer tells OK!. "Madonna has not met with any lawyers nor are there any plans for a divorce.

Coldplay tour kickoff delayed

First shows now set for July 14-15 in Los Angeles

NEW YORK -- Coldplay has been forced to postpone the start of its North American tour by two weeks because of "production delays which mean that the show simply won't be ready" for its planned June 29 kickoff in Philadelphia.
The itinerary will now begin July 14-15 in Los Angeles; it was to close Aug. 4 in Chicago but will instead wrap that day in Boston. Tickets for the scrapped dates will be valid for the new ones, but refunds are also available at points of purchase. For an updated itinerary, visit the band's Web site.
Coldplay's previously announced free shows in London (June 16), Barcelona (June 17) and New York (June 23) will go on as planned, as will a July 27 at the first Pemberton Festival in British Columbia.
Following the conclusion of the first North American leg, the group has international touring on tap through early October, after which it begins another round of North American dates. In 2009, Coldplay will play European stadiums and might even play such venues in North America next year "if we can do the business," manager Dave Holmes tells Billboard.
The band's fourth album, "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends," will be released June 16 internationally via Parlophone/EMI and a day later in North America via Capitol. First single "Viva La Vida" last week became the biggest hit of Coldplay's career by jumping from No. 10 to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.
